Dec 10, 2019, The Witcher Netflix Series Gets Three New Character. Fleet Footed seems pretty invaluable from reading the tooltip at least.
![]()
Signs are OP! Igni is OP! Alchemy is OP!
The thing is, not every build is viable at every level. Not only that, not every build is viable on every difficutly.
Anyone looking for an OP build at anything less than max level or endgame, just match your skills to the best set of witcher gear you have.
Griffin Gear is made for magic users, so a magic build is strongest once you have it.
-Igni/Quen dominates, even on Death March.
Cat gear is for fast, nimble attackers with crits and bleeds.
-Fast Attack/Fleet Footed/and maybe Resolve
Bear is best for strong attackers and synergizes well with alchemy.
-Search reddit for an alchemy guide, I'm not here yet in my game.
As the game progresses you gain access to each set and can upgrade the old if you find you like that play style the best. I advise swicthing to each as you get them rather than upgrading, and finding how you like to play. Or just switching when one play style gets boring.
Dont forget your armor skill bonus. It's worth the slot.
Last bit of advice: Remeber as you are leveling up that you have only a few skill slots and without them slotted, they dont affect you. Having three skill slots and spreading your skill points across fours skills is a waste.
EDIT: Wow, completely forgot about mutagens. You get a ton of blue early game, hinthint use more signs hinthint.
PPS
-Dont care what anyone says, Sun and Stars is useless.

Tips for a Witcher 3 noob?Posted by gulfcoasttiger5 on 6/22/19 at 9:42 pm
Just fired up Witcher 3: GOTY edition for the first time. I’m loving it, but I’ll admit that I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed by the sheer scope of the world and depth of the gameplay. Any tips for a newbie on how to maximize fun in the world?
Playing on normal difficulty, btw. TIA

Stick with witcher gear. The game is pretty easy on normal mode. Combat shouldn't be a problem. Use quen.

Thanks. Do you recommend bumping the difficulty for a better time? I just recently 100% God of War on “Give Me God of War,” but this game already seems way more complex. Alternatively, is the story good enough to just focus on that?

Blood and Broken Bones isn't that much harder. It will force you to use more alchemy though. On normal difficulty you can get by just fine with your swords and a few signs. The story and world building is some of the best I've ever seen in a game so its worth playing just for that.

Figure out how mutagens work and make sure to actually slot your skills. I went through the first quarter of the game wondering why I couldn’t use any of the alternative spell forms like a dumbass

Is there a particular skill tree that I should focus on? Or is it more preference/gameplay focused? Can you max out all the skills or do you have to be more strategic?

Definitely more style preference than strategic necessity though there are several skills and perk combinations that can make the game way too easy imo. I liked magic the most so I just specked hard into that, alchemy becomes pretty damn OP when you earn enough perk points, and the fleet footed perk trivializes a lot of fights since it’s basically unlimited i frames. Pretty sure you can buy (maybe craft) potions that reset all your perk points in case you want to respeck later.
ETA: you can max out all skill trees, but there’s a limited number of skills you can slot at any given time so they wouldn’t all be active. So let’s say you max out magic tree, if there’s a spell that you don’t really find yourself using then it would be better to slot a more useful perk from alchemy or combat trees.

I’m jealous. Best game ever made. Be patient with it. It took about 10-15 hours for it to really suck me in, but once it does you’ll be hooked. I played on normal the whole time and it was almost to easy, but I was more in it for the story than the challenge. I didn’t mess with Gwent at all until the end then I went back and did all the challenges and it worked out well. Take your time, do all the side quests, and enjoy the hell out of it

I finished Sekiro and snagged the complete edition for $15 during the PS sale. 6 hours in....killed a griffin. I'm all in. The dialogue has been pretty funny. Reminds me of laughing at Fallout: New Vegas dialogue. I turned off the blurry vision when you turn because it was too trippy. I did the harder difficulty (step below the hardest one) because I've seen that talked about a good bit here.

Yeah, I can already see how Gwent could get addicting just from the tutorial I played. Going to try and stay away as much as I can. How many of the side quests affect the way the story plays out, if any at all? I’m a bit of a completionist for fear of missing relevant or cool content, but I’m only a couple of quests in and the side shite is already starting to pile up Is it all just extra crowns and loot or are they worth discovering?

All of the hunts are unique and really fun. The side missions themselves add to the story and are worth it. I myself couldn’t move on to the next main mission without first covering every “?” In the area. I had a good number of hours before I even got to the bloody baron quests which is near the beginning and is when is really starts to get good. The quest with the 3 witches in the swamp is what hooked me. The only thing I’d tell you not to waste your time with are all the “?”s that are in the ocean once you reach Skellige Isle. There’s a shite ton of them and you don’t really get anything good and it’s a pain in the arse sailing to all of them with those godamn sirens attacking your boat. I cleared all of them just for completionist sake but wouldn’t do it again. The only benefit would be to sell all the loot you get from them to be able to afford to craft all 3 of the master armor builds. shite gets expensive

quote: Did you get past the first zone? The griffin that he mentioned basically. Because the first zone is pretty run of the mill and not that exciting. But once you get past that it is fantastic. I don't see how anyone wouldn't be sucked in by the next major quest line (the Baron questline)

quote:You will inevitably come across an enemy called a 'fiend'. It's big so you can't miss it. Looks like a deer/bear cross with elk antlers. If you see it, be sure you have learned the Superior Cat alchemy formula and drank it before you attack. Fiends are very rare but very tough especially if you're of lower level without enhanced School gear. As if they're not already badass and tough enough, they hypnotize you. Superior Cat prevents hypnosis. If you go in without it, a fiend will 100% hypnotize you and wreck your shite within moments of your immobility. Aside from that, the rest is more fun just to run through and figure out for yourself. The Blood and Wine expansion is stunningly beautiful with a great story in a new land, and you get your own property that you can invest a little coin in and have a really nice home and vineyard. The Hearts of Stone expansion is the single most enveloping quest line I have ever played. In any game. Ever. Period. The depth of the characters and story is unbelievable. I won't post spoilers and would advise you to not look up any videos on it that may spoil it either. Just make sure you're leveled up properly with strong equipment and as much alchemical knowledge as possible and dive in. Just writing this is going to make me fire up W3 again tomorrow and start up another playthrough. This will be #5 but still absolutely worth the time.

Dont forget to repair or swap out weapons and armor. Pay attention to how your mutegens stack and use them to fit your playstyle Like someone else said, took me a good 10 hours to get deep into it but once you do you wont be able to put it down. Best game I've ever played and I wish I could experience it again.

Take your time in white orchard. The game is pretty much over once you kill the griffin

quote: Combat is fun, but in all honesty the story is so immersive and impressive that you'll consider it almost secondary. You can enjoy the storyline without ever playing the first two games (I never did and loved 3). The expansions are worth it, IMHO, especially if you can get a package deal. They really do add a lot. There are legit funny moments as well. It isn't ALL doom and gloom. Revisit places. In some of them, you'll see the repercussions of your actions. The Baron of Blood quest arc (no spoilers) is, IMHO, the single best quest I've played in many years. Gwent is a fun side thing, but one word of advice - play it and learn it. There is one quest (again, no spoilers) where you'll need to know WTF you're doing with it.
